SFI Principal Investigator AwardJiri Vala has been awarded an SFI Principal Investigator Award for research on "Naturally Fault Tolerant Quantum Information Processing: From Concepts to Media Devices and Algorithms". This is the only such award to be won by a researcher at N.U.I. Maynooth for 2011.

SHELL Theoretical Physics PrizesPostgraduate student at DIAS, Olaf Smits and Shanna Haaker, a collaborator of Joost Slingerland have both won a "SHELL Theoretical Physics Stipend". These prizes are awarded each year to the best masters students in theoretical physics in the Netherlands.
