Topological entanglement entropy made classical

Entanglement entropy has emerged as a powerful tool to detect topological order in strongly correlated quantum systems. In 2D gapped quantum systems, it measures the total quantum dimension of the underlying low-energy effective field theory. In this talk, we show that the total quantum dimension has, in fact, a counterpart in classical loop models and can be measured in a similar way as in the quantum systems.
