Friction (dissipation) and fluctuations in quantum mechanics with applications

Wednesday 14 July at 2.15 p.m.

Physics and Chemistry Theatre (PCT), 1st floor, Science Building, North Campus.

Abstract:

The theoretically derived quantum Langevin equation is shown to be a powerful tool for handling a vast array of problems dealing with dissipation, such as fluctuation-dissipation relations, decoherence, disentanglement, the solution of the problem of a radiating electron with no runaway solutions, quantum effects on the laws of thermodynamics ,etc.

All are welcome. Tea/coffee and biscuits to follow. For directions to the Dept. please check http://www.thphys.nuim.ie/map.php
