Hall C, Arts Bloc, North Campus

Identical hard spheres inside a cylinder exhibit a rich variety of densest columnar phases. In this talk I will present a full taxonomy of these phases and a surprisingly simple method of sequential deposition for their construction. I will also discuss the experimental relevance of these densest packings with nano-, micro-, colloidal and charged particles.

All are welcome. Tea/coffee and biscuits to follow. For directions to the Dept. please check http://www.thphys.nuim.ie/map.php
