Vortices in Kitaev's Honeycomb Model

Kitaev's honeycomb lattice model has attracted considerable attention recently as it exhibits both abelian and non-abelian topological phases and is in some regimes exactly solvable. The focus of this talk is on the anyons emerging in the abelian topological phase of the model. Specifically, I will present an exact approach to access the statistical properties of the abelian anyons which avoids approximations associated with underlying toric code structure of this phase.
